We’re going to buff ‘em and shine ‘em up
by Anne Moore
12/15/2003

“We’re going to buff ‘em and shine ‘em up,” Dr. Atz said as he gestured toward Archie. “And then we’ll see what we can do about the vent.” John and I smiled in response.

Dr. Atz and Dr. Hlavacek confirmed today that Archie’s surgery is tentatively scheduled for this Friday, although there is the possibility that Archie will be operated on as early as Wednesday. “There’s a reason we use magnets to build the OR schedule,” Dr. Atz explained. “There is the possibility that the schedule may change, but we will most likely operate this week.”

While I hate it that my little man is headed to surgery, I am hopeful that it will be the beginning of a new, healthy life for Archie.

When John and I visited Archie tonight, his nurse shared with us how much the PCICU staff senses our commitment to our son. “You are both so positive,” she offered. “We can feel it when you walk in. We felt it the first time we met you.”

“We just feel so lucky to have Archie in our lives,” I responded. “How could we not be positive around him?”
